Convenience:

Automatic - set and forget. As long as your computer is on and has access to the Internet, the backup will happen according to your preset schedule. No need to hang around after everyone else has knocked off or shut down the network before closing time.

You will receive an email notifying you of the satisfactory completion of the backup each night, if requested. If you need help you can talk to a real person who will even come round to your premises to help if you are having trouble. How many remote backup services will do that?


Reliability:

Once you have set the backup schedule the computer looks after it all. No need to remember which type of backup you should be doing tonight, or even if tonight is a backup night.

Remote backup will check that the backup has actually made it to our server as it was sent. Not many tape or Zip systems actually check the data to make sure it has actually been stored correctly.

If, for some unforeseen circumstance, the backup can’t be fully processed one night (eg. your ISP is down) then remote backup will pick up where it left off next time and finish the last backup before starting the next.

Security:

Because you are the only one who holds the encryption key, you are the only one who can access the data in the files. Not even your provider knows what’s in them.
